Birthday of Hans Peter Stihl

50th birthday of the company's Chairman Hans Peter Stihl (18 April). On 22 September, Hans Peter Stihl is awarded the Distinguished Service Cross First Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Lothar Späth.

1982

STIHL 024 - erste Motorsäge der "Neuen Generation"

Als erste Motorsäge verfügt die STIHL 024 über eine automatisch auslösende Quickstop-Kettenbremse. Die 024 gehört zu einer "Neuen Generation" von STIHL Profisägen, die mit hervorragendem Leistungsgewicht, ergonomischem Design, hohen Sicherheitsstandards und ihrer Bedienungs- und Wartungsfreundlichkeit neue Maßstäbe setzt.

German Marketing Award

STIHL receives the highly coveted "German Marketing Award" from the German Marketing Association.

1983

Blower BG 60

The hand-held "air broom" quickly removes fallen leaves from large areas.

STIHL continues to grow

The STIHL founding company now employs 3488 men and women, including 2353 blue-collar workers and 1135 white-collar employees. The STIHL Group employs a total workforce of 5083 men and women.

1984

Lateral chain tensioner for chainsaws

The saw chain is now tensioned through the sprocket wheel cover, preventing undesirable contact with the chain.

German Logistics Award

STIHL receives the "German Logistics Award" from the Federal Logistics Association for its exemplary logistics organization.

1985

BioPlus™ chain lubricant

The vegetable chain oil for ecologically aware users is rapidly bio-degraded in the ground. BioPlus™ has been awarded the "Blue Angel" ecology mark since 1988.

STIHL celebrates the next jubilee

60 years of STIHL.
To celebrate the occasion, a street festival is organized in July of this year for the STIHL employees in plant 1 in Waiblingen.

1986

Multifunction handle for brushcutters

Brushcutters are equipped with the ergonomically designed multifunction handle for easy operation. The various engine functions are controlled via this handle.

1987

Ematic™ system for chainsaws

The Ematic™ system reduces chain oil consumption, cuts operating costs and helps to protect the environment.

President of the DIHT

On 3 March, Hans Peter Stihl is elected President of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHT) in Bonn.

1988

Clearing saw FR 106

STIHL introduces a brushcutter with backpack power unit for mowing and maintenance jobs in particularly difficult conditions.

Catalytic converter for chainsaws

STIHL develops the world's first catalytic converter for two-stroke engines. It reduces the level of harmful hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas by 70 - 80 percent. The STIHL 044 C is the first chainsaw with catalytic converter.

President of the IHK

On 14 December, Hans Peter Stihl is elected President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for the Stuttgart region.

1989

Filling system for chainsaws and power tools

The filling system supplied as an accessory for the STIHL combination canister allows chainsaws and power tools to be fuelled without dripping - and it stops automatically when the tank is full.
