Head and Meyer set eyes on Championship
Round three of the 2016 Australian STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Championship Pro-Tour, presented by Volkswagen AMAROK, gets underway at the Supercars Ipswich SuperSprint on 22 - 24 July.
3 days of power-packed STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® action will thrill fans at the Queensland race way, with Australia's top 8 Timbersports athletes battling it out to become Australian champion which in turn sees them move on to the world championships in Stuttgart Germany.
After 2 of 5 rounds the ladder is tight with only 2 points separating the top 4 of QLD's Jamie Head, NSW's Brad De Losa and VIC's duo of Brayden Meyer and Laurence O'Toole.
VW Amarok Championship Points after 2 of 5 rounds:
1st - Jamie Head (QLD) – 14
2nd - Brayden Meyer (VIC) - 13
3rd - Brad De Losa (NSW) – 13
4th - Laurence O'Toole (VIC) – 12
Jamie Head, who is currently top of the VW Amarok leader board said, "Being consistent in the competition has gotten me to the front spot. I need to stay in the high spots in each round to maintain this position."
Brayden Meyer, the 2015 Australian Champion and winner of the Champions Trophy in Austria last month said, "I'm happy with how I'm competing and confident that I can take out the win again this year."
But it's not only the battle at the top of the ladder that's heating up, the top 5 finishers at the end of the season will make the Aussie team to battle for a 3peat at the team world championships. Currently tied for 5th are QLD's Brodie Dingle and TAS's Kody Steers and Matt Gurr. Mitch Argent is sitting bottom of the ladder but still has his eyes set on making 5th place "My goal is to try and get on the Australian team. To go on the trip again and defend our title would be awesome."

Also on the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® stage will be the state's top 6 Timbersports athletes outside of the main championship, they will be competing for a spot on next year's roster, Sunshine Coasts Josh Adamson is looking to improve on his poor showing at last year's championship qualifier which saw him miss out on the final. The State Championship will take place on Sunday 24th July.
And rounding out the action are Queensland's Rookies, the top 6 under 25 athletes will be competing for 2 spots in the Australian Rookie Final where the overall winner will represent Australia at the Rookie World Championships next year.
