Round 2 Tasmania
Matt Gurr From Deloraine saw off tough competition from Tasmania's top STIHL TIMBERSPORTS athletes to book himself a place at the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Australian championship final.
Matt was neck and neck with competition favourite Dale Beams going into the final round, the Hotsaw. Youngster Kody Steers 19 from Sheffield was 3 points off the leaders and knew that a lightning fast time and a disqualification from one of the leaders was needed to book the second automatic slot into the Bathurst 1000 final.
Kody Steers went first in the Hotsaw and set a blistering time of 10.49. The leaders Beams and Gurr went head to head in the final heat which saw Beams unfortunately disqualify with a cut over the allowed 15cm of wood designated for the 3 discs to be cut with the custom built 300cc chainsaws.
Matt Gurr posted a time of 11.42 to secure first place and his spot at the grand final. Kody Steers took second with Dale Beams pushed down to 3rd.
